In the early 1980s, a handful of Japanese University students banded together to form Daicon Film, an amateur production group which, amongst other things, produced the landmark opening animations for the the 20th Annual Japan National SF Convention, Daicon IV. By 1985, they had formed the production company Gainax, and for their initial effort, produced Royal Space Force, a film that has repeatedly been pointed to as a work of cultural significance, and a high-water mark for Japanese animation. Since then, they have produced numerous significant and innovative works such as Gunbuster, Otaku no Video, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, and most notably, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Despite all the success and influence, they remain a humble little company nestled in the center of Tokyo, Japan. This panel will discuss their work, history, and how they are a major player and influencer in today's anime industry.

The role of women in video games mirrors how they are viewed and valued in society. Women’s role in games has changed drastically, from an objectified role in the early days of gaming, to a more active and participant role. However, female characters continue to be objectified and sexualized with unrealistic body types that would realistically be impossible for them to perform physically demanding stunts with such a build. This panel highlights changes that can be implemented to the gaming industry if women are to be active, participating characters and not be objectified or valued for physical characteristics alone.
Taught in a show and tell format, this panel will help you learn the basics of how to tell one type of kimono from another. Different levels of formality, how to tell a men's kimono from a women's kimono, the importance of color and how to wear a kimono will all be covered. Attendees will be allow to handle vintage kimono and see close up the different types of decoration and silk used in kimono. If time allows, there will be a demonstration of how to wear kimono and how to tie three different bows for the obi.

In Edo during the mid-1800's, fireworks maker Seikichi Tamaya and his friends struggle to live under the harsh frugality laws imposed by the strict city magistrate, which ban all luxuries, including fireworks. One day, a strange girl stops by Seikichi's shop with an equally strange request: she wants Seikichi to build a firework that can reach the moon.

Takeshi Hongo is a person of extraordinarily keen intellect - a young man with great promise for the future. But that future is snuffed out by a secret society called Shocker. They use reconstructed humans in all manner of experiments in an attempt to take over the world.
Hongo is made into a reconstructed human with the abilities of a locust: Masked Rider 1. Through sheer luck, Hongo realizes that he is being controlled by evil and can never return to his original form.
Meanwhile, Shocker views the escaped Hongo as a traitor and sends off a new reconstructed human after him as an assassin. The assassin has the same powers and appearance of Masked Rider 1. His name is Hayato Ichimonji: Masked Rider 2. But with their opposing powers there is no conclusion to the fight and they only succeed in hurting each other.
Growing impatient with Ichimonji, Shocker orders reconstructed humans Snake and Cobra to murder not only Hongo but also the headstrong Ichimonji.

In 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho period), after being told by a baseball player that women should become housewives instead of going to school, two 14-year-old Japanese high school girls named Koume and Akiko decide to start a baseball team in order to prove him wrong. During this time, when even running was considered too vulgar for women, baseball is known as "what the boys do" and they face many difficulties when searching members, getting permission from their parents and when learning about the sport itself.

The guy's supposed to protect Tessa, too, but how "top secret" can he really be when he's sneaking around in a teddy bear suit, blowing up lockers, striking out with every girl in sight, and taking a mech to the hot springs?
Sure, Sousuke's methods are a little intense, but high school's tough. Collateral damage is to be expected, right?

Four anarchistic, nihilistic youths run amuck in the streets and Attack the Gas Station! This quartet of thugs who rob a gas station out of sheer boredom, having robbed it only a few days previous. Unable to get any money from the register, they take everyone hostage and start dispensing gas and keeping the money. As the characters find different ways of amusing themselves, mostly through the mixed cast of characters that come in through the gas station, it's only a matter of time before they start upsetting the wrong people. Gangsters are forced to rap, customer service becomes a fighting art and the gas station becomes a staging ground for an end-times battle between gangsters, punks and an army of moped-delivery boys.

How does Cosplay Human Chess work? In ordinary Human Chess, thirty-two participants act out the parts of chess pieces on a giant board as two players direct from above. Cosplay Human Chess is the same, except that all the pieces are in costume, and act out their moves as their characters would. Only the two main players need chess experience.

To participate on the board in Cosplay Human Chess, you must be in costume as anime/manga/video game characters Priority is given to well-known characters from popular series and to multiple characters from the same series. Pre-Registration is required for those actually participating in the event as chess pieces. The registration deadline for this event is June 5!
