History of Gainax

In the early 1980s, a handful of Japanese University students banded together to form Daicon Film, an amateur production group which, amongst other things, produced the landmark opening animations for the the 20th Annual Japan National SF Convention, Daicon IV. By 1985, they had formed the production company Gainax, and for their initial effort, produced Royal Space Force, a film that has repeatedly been pointed to as a work of cultural significance, and a high-water mark for Japanese animation. Since then, they have produced numerous significant and innovative works such as Gunbuster, Otaku no Video, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, and most notably, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Despite all the success and influence, they remain a humble little company nestled in the center of Tokyo, Japan. This panel will discuss their work, history, and how they are a major player and influencer in today's anime industry.

He doesn't recall his connection to the ongoing missile attacks terrorizing the Japanese people, or the part he played in the sudden disappearance of 20,000 shut-ins. He doesn't even remember he's supposed to save Japan and will be murdered if he fails. Whatever it is he's tangled up in, Takizawa's definitely in deep - and that's not even scratching the surface.

Changing Role of Women in Video Games From Objectification to Participation

The role of women in video games mirrors how they are viewed and valued in society. Women’s role in games has changed drastically, from an objectified role in the early days of gaming, to a more active and participant role. However, female characters continue to be objectified and sexualized with unrealistic body types that would realistically be impossible for them to perform physically demanding stunts with such a build. This panel highlights changes that can be implemented to the gaming industry if women are to be active, participating characters and not be objectified or valued for physical characteristics alone.

Concert: Clockwork Dolls
The Clockwork Dolls began in 2007 with a simple concept: To create music that serves not only as a source for recreation, but as a means of narration; like a storyteller in days of old. The band's strength rests in their unique combination of skills. Their music combines Allison Curval's knack for the fusing of traditional classical music with the epic sounds of contemporary musical scores and modern electronica with Helene De Fer's passion for poetic lyrics and vocal stylings. The music of this motley crew involves an elaborate world that is simultaneously familiar and strange. The Clockwork Dolls functions not only as a band, but as a group of writers and actors relaying the epic tales of heroism, tragedy, triumph, and adventure in a world filled with flights of fancy, airships, and the technology of both past and future. It is a story of heroes and villains, and of lovers and adventurers. In short, it is the story of people who fly.

Internation Relation 101: War, Trade, Love & Peace according to Axis Powers Hetalia

Edutainment: An informational Fan Panel for the widely popular franchise Axis Powers Hetalia. For those who haven't caught onto the fad, Axis Powers Hetalia is a parody comic/anime of world nations, culture, and history. This panel will be an about bridging the gap between the real study of International Relations and highlights the Hetalia storyline and characters; a very light-hearted and broad-scope lens aimed at giving fans a below-surface understanding of how Nations and States interact. We'll also talk about the origin of commonly-used terms such as Special Friendship, Marriage of Convenience, Annexation of Vital Regions, the various kinds of Summits.

((Just FYI, I am an International Relations graduate, with a similar love for satire and Hetalia fandom/community. This panel will be run by those with a sense of history and humor))

Kaname Chidori's one of the most popular girls at her high school - unfortunately, it's her growing popularity off campus she should be worrying about. Unbeknownst to Kaname, terrorists are plotting her abduction, believing she possesses the rare and coveted abilities of "the Whispered."

That's where Sousuke Sagara enters the picture. He's a hotshot soldier from the clandestine counter-terrorist organization known as Mithril - and he's going undercover at Kaname's school to try and keep her safe. He may be an ace in the cockpit of an Arm Slave mech, but there's no training in the world that could prepare him for the warzone of high school.

From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Turbans will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will pushed to the breaking point.

Sword of the Stranger (TV-14-V)

(TV-14-V) (English audio)

What qualifies a man as good or evil? Is it the amount of political power one attains, the quality of his swordsmanship, or how well he serves his lord? With the fall of the second shogunate Japan has sunk into a state of disarray historians now call the Sengoku period, or the era of Warring States. Civil wars rage on throughout the many feudal holdings, where a man may raise his station in life simply by killing his superior.

Whilst wandering this war-torn countryside a nameless ronin stumbles upon a young boy by the name of Kotaro, his dog, and the many Chinese assassins dispatched to claim the boy in some strange ritual for immortality. Seeing something of his own past within the child, the nameless swordsman chooses to act as his bodyguard, but can he truly keep Kotaro from the clutches of the Ming and their bloodthirsty blonde mercenary, Luo-Lang?

Life Gamble (TV-MA-V)

(TV-MA-V) (Chinese audio)

Don't bet on surviving this bloodbath!

Kung Fu fans with a bloodlust for backstabbing bad guys and gut-wrenching plot twists need look no further than this offering from the Godfather of Hong Kong Cinema, Chang Cheh. Life Gamble is the tale of a Kung Fu blacksmith caught in a life and death struggle between dueling knife-slingers, the seductress who kills with her smile, a murderous iron-fisted villain, and the ruthless king of gamblers.

Starring Hong Kong screen-idols Alexander Fu Sheng (Brave Archer) and Kuo Chui (Hard Boiled, Tomorrow Never Dies), this sanguine saga of thievery, gambling, and cold-blooded murder drives audiences to the edge of their seats, leaving them nervously watching their backs long after the credits have rolled.

(PG, English Audio)

From the visionary directory of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2007 Japanese Academy Prize, Best Animated Feature) comes the story of an ordinary family going to extraordinary lengths to avert the impending cyber apocalypse!

Kenji is your typical teenage misfit. He’s good at math, bad with girls, and spends most of his time hanging out in the all-powerful, online community known as OZ. His second life is the only life he has – until the girl of his dreams, Natsuki, hijacks him for a starring role as a fake fiancée at her family reunion. Things only get stranger from there. A late-night email containing a cryptic mathematic riddle leads to the unleashing of a rogue AI intent on using the virtual word of OZ to destroy the real world, literarily.  As Armageddon looms on the horizon, Kenji and his new “family” set aside their differences and band together to save the worlds they inhabit in this “near-perfect blend of social satire and science fiction.” (AnimeNewsNetwork.com)

'Who's Line is it Anime?' is an improv comedy show based on the legendary 'Who's Line is it Anyway?', where a cast of not-exactly-bribed panelists act out scenes based on situations and topics relating to anime/games/comics, mainly at the mercy of the audience's choice. That's right: Who's Line is 100% more interactive, and 100% more counterproductive this year, which means that everybody wins in the end! .. Right?

Sousuke's locked, loaded, and ready to attack - which would be awesome if he was going into battle. But he's just going to high school, and all the qualities that make him a good soldier make him an amazingly awkward classmate. Poor Kaname knows that better than anyone, since Sousuke's her undercover bodyguard. The guy's supposed to protect Tessa, too, but how "top secret" can he really be when he's sneaking around in a teddy bear suit, blowing up lockers, striking out with every girl in sight, and taking a mech to the hot springs?

Sure, Sousuke's methods are a little intense, but high school's tough. Collateral damage is to be expected, right?

Film legend Ti Lung (A Better Tomorrow, The Legend of Drunken Master) battles the scourge of the orient in this epic final film from director Tang Chia. Schooled in the martial arts by the Peking Opera, Chia's deft touch guides the gut-wrenching tale of a Kung Fu master wrecked by opium. Starring a legitimate champion of the Gibbon Fist style as the film's villain - Chen Kuan Tai (The Flying Guillotine, Big Brother Cheng) - Chia's masterpiece showcases the talents of at least six different martial arts directors.
